"Under the Bridge" by Kevin Harris
Kevin Harris is a printmaker, textile designer, and watercolor artist based in Berkeley, California. His prints are often pattern-based focusing on overlapping, transparent color layers, textural surfaces, and forms, with a focus on abstract and elemental impressions of nature.
Utilizing imagery originally designed as multicolor, repeating patterns for silk scarves, and textile artifacts for the home, this large scale wall-hanging focuses on texture, showing three faces of string surrounded by a plywood pattern. Represented in a reductive style, these shapes and textures take on an anthropomorphic quality, as the balance between graceful and blunt areas shows how a shape interacts with its world.
